final images

These are the final images for my project; my characters and their companions.

Characters coloured

Here are all my character coloured with Pro-markers and outlined with pigment liners. Some of the ink has bled over the lines so I'll have to correct this and any other mistakes in photoshop.

Expressions are hard to come up with!

I sat down last night and started one of my character expression sheet. It's difficult to think of expressions that we make and how mixed up or misinterpreted they can become!

Character companions

Thoroughly enjoying designing the companions for my characters because I feel like I have such freedom with it and I can design some quirky looking creatures!

Day of the Dead character design progress

For my character design project this year I picked three themes. I got the themes from a Facebook page called character design references and they hold these challenges every month with a different theme each time. So I picked: Dia de los Muertos, Post Apocalyptic, and Vampires. I'm finalising my ideas at the moment so here is my Dia de los Muertos character idea. I wanted to give the look of a split personality. Another entity taking over her and sharing her body. All of these characters are designed with the idea that they would be featured in a game. Not a specific game, but these are the types of characters that would fit in the video game world. My next project will be to put these characters in to environments that would also feature in the game.

To pro marker, or not to pro marker

So lately, I was introduced to an adorable piece of software called Fire Alpaca. Very similar to Paint Tool Sai but with not as many brush options. This is mainly down to the fact that the software is fairly new. That being said I'm enjoying using the software to quickly get my ideas visualised. The more I use it the more I'm questioning whether to integrate it into my final character designs instead using my lovely pro markers. Perhaps I could do the line work in Fire Alpaca and colour with promarkers or do the line work with fineliners and pro markers, then go on to colour on fire Alpaca. These are the choices I'll have to make pretty soon!

Business cards

My business cards arrived finally! Vistaprint have some really good deals on. I think these will need updating as my work progresses however because my work is constantly developing!

My images on various products

I have been looking at ways to get my name out there and I've found that Vista Print has a wide range of products that would be fantastic to use. Below are some examples of my favourites. I have actually ordered the business cards and they should be arriving soon.

I have a blog!

Hi there, reader! You've stumbled across a blog of my art work! I'll tell you a little about myself first. My name is Becca, I'm 21 and I'm a student studying Illustration with Animation at Wirral Metropolitan College. I'm in my third year and focusing on character design. As the weeks go by you'll see some examples of work from my current project popping up on here. But for now have these!
